Altamont High School Students Receive Laptop Computer
January 07, 2012
On January 4, 2012, the students at Altamont Community High School received a Dell laptop computer to enhance and enrich their learning opportunities. The computers are an ongoing initiative to move Altamont Unit #10 into a true 21st Century learning environment. With the assistance of a Federal grant (Enhancing Education Through Technology/E2T2) the district has been able to catapult to the forefront educational technology use.
The high school teachers have had several hours of training on the uses of the computers as a teaching and learning tool. The program allows for better conservation of resources. The district will be working to not use as much paper through software programs such as moodle and ifolder for presentation of lessons to students and retrieval of homework by teachers without ever using a piece of paper.
The computers will not replace teachers, or all paper usage, or even all textbooks. However, they will assist students in their continued learning by using 21st Century technologies.
