Biography
Mr. Gercken, a native of Bellflower, Illinois, earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2006. During college, he was active in the Marching Illini mellophone line, Varsity Men's Glee Club, Basketball Band, and the top four symphonic bands. While at the University of Illinois, he studied piano and horn and student-taught at Centennial High School and Franklin Middle School in Champaign Unit #4. He directed the bands and choirs of the public schools at Oakwood, Illinois for three years before coming to Altamont. Mr. Gercken served as organist of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Osman beginning in 1999 and served as choirmaster until leaving for Altamont in 2010. Mr. Gercken currently directs the Immanuel Chamber Winds of Altamont and serves area LCMS churches as organist and guest cantor.
Mr. Gercken and his wife, Rebecca, have one daughter, Julianna.
